In this article, you'll learn how to anonymise student submissions in Handin to hide student identities during marking.
Create an Anonymous Assignment
Before you begin, you'll need to create a Handin assignment. For instructions, refer to the article Handin: Create an Assignment.
- When you reach the assignment settings in the Handin page, enter the assignment details, then click Next.
- Add the assignment description, then click Next.
- Select the Anonymise student submissions checkbox.
- Click Create.
Edit Anonymity Settings
If you need to change the anonymity settings for an existing assignment, follow these steps:
- Navigate to your Space and click on the Assignments tile.
- Locate the assignment and click the three dots icon in the top-right corner.
- Select Open in Handin.
- The Handin page will open, and the Edit assignment window will appear.
- Click the Settings tab.
- The Anonymise student submissions checkbox is selected because the assignment is currently anonymous. Clear the checkbox to disable anonymous marking.
- Click Save.
The assignment will be updated in Aula, and the Assignment is anonymised icon will no longer appear on the assignment card.
Reveal Student Identities
If you need to reveal the identities of all students in an anonymous assignment, follow these steps:
- Navigate to your Space and click the Assignments tile.
- Locate the assignment and click the three dots icon in the top-right corner.
- Select Reveal students.
All student identities will be revealed, and the assignment will no longer be anonymous. The Assignment is anonymised icon will no longer appear on the assignment card.
Note
It is not currently possible to reveal the identity of an individual student. When you choose to Reveal students, anonymity is removed for all students who submitted to the assignment. This action cannot be applied to individual submissions.
