How to Import a Rubric
You can import an existing rubric into Aula, as long as it’s saved as a .json file.
Navigate to your Space and click on the Assignments tile.
Open the relevant assignment and go to the Handin page.
Select the Rubrics tab.
Click Import rubric (top left).
Choose the .json file from your computer to upload.
Note
Only rubric files exported directly from Handin can be imported back into Handin. Rubrics created externally, or JSON files exported from other tools (such as Turnitin), are not supported and cannot be imported. If you are moving a rubric from another system, it will need to be recreated directly in Handin.
How to Attach a Rubric to an Assignment
Once you've created or imported a rubric, you'll be able to attach it to your new Handin assignments.
Navigate to your Space and click on the Assignments tile.
Click on the New assignment button and select Handin.
- You will be taken to the Handin page, where you will need to add the assignment details: Title, description, open and close dates.
- Under Grading type, choose Rubrics from the drop-down and select the relevant rubric.
Note
Please note that it's not possible to add a rubric to a Handin assignment after the first submission.
How to Edit a Rubric
You can edit an existing rubric at any time to better match what you want to assess.
Navigate to your Space and click Assignments.
Head to the Handin page.
Select the Rubrics tab, then click the rubric you want to edit.
Click Edit within the rubric, make your changes, and Save.
Note
Please note that a rubric can only be changed before the first submission is graded. After the first grade is saved, making changes to rubrics will be locked.

You can easily delete a rubric you created if no longer needed:
Navigate to your Space and click Assignments.
Head to the Handin page.
Select the Rubrics tab, then open the rubric you want to delete.
Click the three dots next to the rubric title and select Delete.
In the pop-up window, confirm by clicking Delete.
