This article explains how educators can export materials in bulk from one space and import them into the Materials area of another space using a JSON file, which keeps the materials and their structure together. This allows you to move content between spaces or from an external source into Aula.
Export All Materials
To export all Materials from a specific Aula space, follow the steps below.
- In the space you want to export Materials from, go to Materials. You can access this from the Space Navigation page by clicking the Materials tile.
- Click on the 3 dots symbol (⋮) at the top of the Materials sidebar and click Export material.
-
Select a relevant location to download the .json file to your computer. You do not need to open the .json file.
Note
- You can’t export an entire section from a space page.
- Assignments, Community Feed posts, group messages, and direct messages are not included in the export.
Import All Materials
Once you've exported your Materials from your space, or if you have a JSON file exported from a different platform, you can import it to a relevant space in Aula.
- In the space that you'd like to import Materials to, go to Materials. You can access this from the Space Navigation page by clicking the Materials tile.
- Click on the 3 dots symbol (⋮) at the top of the Materials sidebar and click Import material.
-
Select a relevant JSON file from your computer. Again, no need to open the .json file.
Note
- Imported materials are added below the existing content. Importing does not replace any current materials.
- Some items do not transfer between spaces and must be recreated manually. These include assignment links, LTI blocks, and files, as they are unique to each space.
- If you import a JSON file created from material pages that include a discussion topic, the discussion topic will also be imported. However, comments are not imported — only the discussion topic itself.
