Turnitin: Turnitin LTI vs Moodle Direct Comparison

Turnitin is an external assessment tool with which Aula integrates via the LTI. Turnitin offers a few different types of integrations depending on different services which you can see outlined here.

Educators may primarily have had previous experiences with the Moodle Direct V2 integration version. Aula, and many other platforms, use the LTI integration version which means that things may look a little different from what some educators have gotten used to.

Submitting on behalf of a student To resubmit on behalf of a student, resubmissions must be enabled in assignment settings. Instructors are able to submit on behalf of students at any time, even after the post-date of the assignment.
Rubrics Scorecard types

Standard rubric - allows you to enter scale values and criteria percentages. The maximum value for the standard rubric will be the same as the highest scale value entered.

Qualitative rubric - allows you to create a rubric that has no numeric scoring.

Custom rubric - allows you to enter any value directly into the rubric cells. The maximum value for the custom rubric will be the sum of the highest value entered in each of the criteria rows.

Attaching a rubric scorecard to an assignment
  1. From the online grading toolbar, select the rubric icon to open the Rubric side panel.
  2. Click the cog icon in the Rubric/Form side panel to open the Rubric and Form Manager.
  3. Click the menu icon in the top left of the Rubric and Form Manager.
  4. Choose option:
    • If the rubric you wish to attach is selected, move to step 5.
    • Alternatively, select the rubric you wish to attach to the assignment from the drop-down menu.
  5. The rubric will now be displayed within the Manager. In the bottom left-hand corner of the Manager, toggle Attach to assignment as On

    The same can be done to detach a rubric from an assignment.

  2. Click the cog icon in the Rubric/Form side panel to open the Rubric and Form Manager.
  3. Click the menu icon in the top left of the Rubric and Form Manager.
  4. Choose option:
    • If the rubric you wish to attach is selected, move to step 5.
    • Alternatively, select the rubric you wish to attach to the assignment from the drop-down menu.
  5. The rubric will now be displayed within the Manager. In the bottom left-hand corner of the Manager, toggle Attach to assignment as On

    The same can be done to detach a rubric from an assignment.

Submission receipt

After submission, educators can view a copy of a student's digital receipt to keep for your records. The digital receipt contains:

  • Student's name
  • Assignment title and submission title
  • File name and file size
  • Page count, word count, and character count
  • Submission date
  • Submission ID

  1. Select the down arrow download icon from the Feedback Studio toolbar.
  2. Click Digital Receipt to start the download. This includes details such as a Submission ID and submission date and time. Students are also able to download a copy of the digital receipt.
