Educators and students are often added to multiple spaces, and managing them can be time-consuming and confusing, especially when it’s not always clear which spaces are most relevant.
That’s why the space selector includes features to help you organise your spaces and quickly find the one you need.

How Are Spaces Categorised in the Space Selector?
Aula categorises spaces based on the start date recorded in your institution’s student record system.
If a space has a start date, Aula assigns it to an academic year based on your institution’s academic calendar. For example, if a space start date falls between 1 September and 31 August, Aula will display it under the corresponding academic year (e.g. 2025/26).
If a space does not have a start date, for example, if it was created manually (such as an Open Aula space or a non-credit-bearing module), it will appear under Communities & Training.
FAQs
1- Why aren’t my spaces categorised?
Spaces are only categorised for institutions that provide module start and end dates through their student record system. If your institution does not share this information with Aula, your spaces will not appear in academic year categories.
2- My space is showing in the wrong category - how can I move it?
Space categories are based on the module start and end dates provided by your institution. To update a space’s category, you’ll need to contact your institution’s registry or student records team and request a correction to the module start and/or end date.
3- Why can’t I see the “Upcoming academic year” category?
The Upcoming academic year category only appears if you’ve been enrolled in spaces with start dates in the next academic year. If you haven’t been added to upcoming modules yet, you won’t see this category.
4- Is this available on the mobile app?
Yes, the space categories are available on both the Aula web platform and the mobile app.
