How to Map an Assignment to an Assessment Item
Before you can export grades to your Student Records system, you need to associate or map the relevant assignment/s to the correct assessment item.
Ideally, you have already done this towards the start of the semester so that students get visibility of which assignments are formative vs. summative and how those summative grades are calculated.
However, if you haven’t already done this, you can do it afterward. Follow these instructions:
Navigate to your space and click the Assignments tile.
Click Student Success App.
Click the title of an assessment item.
Use the dropdown to select which assignment(s) will compose the final grade.
Click Save. You can then click the assessment item again to confirm which assignment(s) have been mapped.
How to Map Multiple Assignments to an Assessment Item
If you need to map more than one assignment to an assessment item, follow these instructions:
Navigate to your space and click the Assignments tile.
Click Student Success App.
Click the title of an assessment item.
Use the dropdown to select an assignment.
Click Add an assignment and select another assignment. (Repeat as needed.)
Add a percentage weight for each assignment so the total equals 100%.
Click Save. You can then click the assessment item again to confirm which assignments are mapped to it.
How to Link Assessment Items
You can link multiple Assessment Items to a single Assessment Item to keep them connected. This allows one assessment result to count towards multiple module components, reducing manual work and ensuring grades are passed back correctly to your university's Student Records system. To link Assessment Items, your space must contain at least two Assessment Items.
To link Assessment Items, follow these instructions:
- Navigate to your space and click the Assignments tile.
- Click Student Success App.
- Click the title of the Assessment Item you want to edit.
- Under Linked Assessment Items, use the dropdown to select one or more Assessment Items to link. The selected Assessment Item(s) will appear below the Linked Assessment Items field.
- Click Save.
Note
- We recommend that you set up the mapping at the beginning of semester to make it clear to students which assignments count towards their final grade for the course, and which are formative only.
- Some of the features mentioned in this article might not be available on your institution’s Aula account. To find out more, please contact your university directly.
- Students with a pending academic misconduct case should be excluded from any exports until the case has been resolved.
