Turnitin can check submissions for plagiarism if your instructor has enabled Similarity Reports for an assignment. The report may flag similarities when sources are not properly cited or when your submission includes paraphrasing that closely matches the original wording or sentence structure.
How to Check if Similarity Reports Are Enabled on Your Assignment
- Go to your Space and open the Assignments tile.
- Click on the title of the Turnitin assignment you want to see. A pop-up window will appear.
- Click on the drop-down arrow next to the title of the assignment.
- Review the Additional Settings section. Please note that educators may choose to allow or restrict student access to Similarity reports.
Understanding Similarity Report Messages
You might see the following messages depending on the assignment settings:

After submitting your paper, you'll be able to see the similarity score in your Assignment Dashboard next to your grade.
