There are a few ways of communicating within an Aula space. It can be done by creating or commenting on a post in the Community Feed or by starting a message. This article details available options for starting and managing messages.
- Create or Reopen a Message
- Update Group Message Settings
- Leave a Group Message
- Remove Participants
- Hide the Message Panel
- Close Messages
Create or Reopen a Message
- Click on New message at the top of the message panel to your right.
- Type the name(s) of the participant(s) you want to start a conversation with or reopen a closed conversation.
- If you're creating a new message with more than 1 user, type a name in the Title field. If you're reopening a closed message, the closed message will reappear with the conversation history.
- Confirm with Next.
- Write your message.
Note
If you don't remember a name of the person that you'd like to get in touch with, you can easily start individual Conversation with all members of your module from the Participants tab.
Update Group Message Settings
- Open the message of your choice and click on the ... icon in the top right.
- Choose one of the available options:
- View participants,
- Add participants,
- Rename conversation,
- Mute notifications,
- Leave conversation.
Leave a Group Message
You can leave a group message that was created as a group.
- Open the group of your choice and click on the ... icon in the top right.
- Click on Leave conversation.
- Confirm by clicking on red icon that reads Leave conversation.

Note
- If you can't find the option to leave a conversation that is not a 1:1 message, it's likely that you were added to it when a Set of Groups was created by a lecturer. If they remove you from the Group, you'll be able to leave the conversation as well.
- If you exit a group, it will still exist, but you will no longer be able to send or receive messages in it.
Remove Participants
You can remove participants from a group message until there are a total of 2 people remaining.
- Open the group of your choice and click on the ... icon in the top right.
- Click on View participants.
- Find the names of the individuals you'd like to remove.
- Select the - icon next to their name and confirm by clicking on Remove.
Hide the Messages Panel
If you'd like to hide the messages panel, simply click on the X on the top right and this will hide the messages panel.
The panel will then be replaced with a small tab in the bottom right of your screen, and an ^ arrow button will allow you to reveal it again when needed.
Close Messages
You can now close messages if they are 1:1 messages or group messages. Simply hover over the name and click the X that appears on the right side of the message. The message will not be deleted. It will simply be removed from your messages panel.
Note
- You cannot close group conversations that are attached to group assignments.
- Conversations in this article refer to a formal or informal exchange of words between two or more people via messages.
