There are a few ways of communicating within an Aula space. It can be done by creating or commenting on a post in the Common Room or by starting a message. This article details available options for starting and managing messages.

Create a Message
- Click on the 3 lines (hamburger icon) at the top left.
- Click on Messages.
- Type the name(s) of the participant(s) you want to start a conversation with or reopen a closed conversation.
- If you're creating a new message with more than 1 user, type a name in the Conversation name field. If you're reopening an already open conversation, the chat will reappear with the conversation history.
- Confirm with Next.
- Type your message.
Note
If you don't remember a name of the person that you'd like to get in touch with, you can easily start individual Conversation with all members of your module from the Participants tab.
Update Group Chat Settings
- Open the message of your choice and click on the ... icon in the top right.
- Choose one of the available options:
- View participants
- Invite participants
- Mute chat

Archive chat
Invite Participants
You can invite participants to a group chat.
- Open the group of your choice and click on the ... icon in the top right.
- Click on Invite participants.

Type the names of the individuals you'd like to add and click on invite.
Remove Participants
You can remove participants from a group message until there are a total of 2 people remaining.
- Open the group of your choice and click on the ... icon in the top right.
- Click on View participants.
- Find the names of the individuals you'd like to remove.

Select the - icon next to their name and confirm by clicking on "Yes, remove".
Leave a Group chat
You can leave a group chat that was created.
- Open the group of your choice and click on the ... icon in the top right.
- Click on Leave chat.
- Confirm by clicking on Leave chat.
Note
- If you can't find the option to leave a conversation that is not a 1:1 message, it's likely that you were added to it when a Set of Groups was created by a lecturer. If they remove you from the Group, you'll be able to leave the conversation as well.
- If you exit a group, it will still exist, but you will no longer be able to send or receive messages in it.
Archive Chat
You can now archive chats if they are 1:1 messages or group messages. The message will not be deleted. It will simply be removed from your list of chats on the right.
- Open the chat of your choice and click on the ... icon in the top right.

Click on Archive chat.
Note
- You cannot close group conversations that are attached to group assignments.
- Conversations / Chats in this article refer to a formal or informal exchange of words between two or more people via messages.
