FAQs
-
Why can't I copy and paste content from MS Word Online and retain the formatting when I paste it into Aula?
Word Online uses a different syntax to the Word app, which makes it difficult to detect certain formatting tags. We advise that you save your Word Online document locally, and open it using the installed Word App before copying and pasting it into Aula. This process will convert the syntax to one that is recognised by Aula.
-
Can I copy all text and images at once from my Word document and paste it into Aula? Images copied alongside text cannot be pasted into Aula, however image placeholders will indicate where the images were located within the text, making it easier to find the location where you need to insert your images after the copy paste from Word.
-
What will happen with my font colour when I copy and paste from Word?
Any font colour copied and pasted from Word will be retained when pasted into Aula. Do note though that editing font colour within Aula will show the existing 7 supported colours. Please take extra care when choosing your font colour to copy from Word as some colours may not be accessible to users with visual impairments. We would recommend sticking to the 7 standard Aula colours, which are accessible.
-
Which text formatting elements are supported with copy and paste from Word?
Aula supports the following formatting elements when copying and pasting from MS Word: Headings (Level 1,2,3); Bold; Italic; Underline; Strikethrough; Lists (Level 1); Quotes; Inline Links; Hyperlinks; Paragraph line breaks; Font colour
-
Can I copy from the Word App on my mobile device and paste it into the Aula mobile app with the formatting retained?
Although you can copy and paste content into the Aula app on your mobile device, the formatting will not be retained. We advise any copy and pasting from the Word app is performed on the Aula web app if formatting needs to be retained.
-
How do I stop any comments within the document from copying over to Aula?
On your Word document, select the "Review" tab on the banner > In the "Comments" section, select "Delete all comments" from the "Delete" dropdown before copying your content from the Word app.
-
If I copy paste all from my Word document, not all of my formatting is copied over for the whole document.
Some MS Word items are not supported by Aula, as may result in Aula reading the content as plain text when it encounters unknown items. If you encounter this issue, we advise copying and pasting smaller sections from your MS Word document, to preserve any document you have throughout your whole document.
-
What happens with nested lists when I copy and paste them into Aula?
Aula supports a flat list structure, so any nested lists that are copied onto Aula, will be converted into a single flat list structure.
-
I have an image surrounded by text on the same line, why does this not get copied over or an image placeholder showing in Aula?
Images need to be copied and pasted separately from Word onto Aula. If an image is detected within your text as a separate paragraph when you copy and paste text, then an image placeholder will be inserted into Aula. If the image is on the same line as the text you're copying, Aula cannot detect your image, and will not insert a placeholder.
