Microsoft Teams has support for the LTI 1.3 standard, allowing it to integrate with platforms that implement LTI such as Aula.
Teams Meetings
Integrating Microsoft Teams Meetings with Aula allows educators to create LTI blocks that link to an area within Teams that is specific to a space within Aula. This provides educators and students a common area in which to store Teams calls that relate to their course or module.
Configuration
These are 3 steps you will need to follow to integrate Microsoft Teams Meetings in Aula:
Step 1:
-
Create a registration for Aula in the Microsoft LMS Gateway. Instructions for this can be found here. You will be provided with the following information that you will need shortly:
- Target link URL
- Open ID connection URL
- Redirect URL - Leave the Microsoft LMS Gateway open
Step 2:
- In a separate tab, navigate to the Aula Admin Dashboard. The URL for this is https://admin.{your-institution}.aula.education
- In the Admin Dashboard, open the menu at the top right of the screen and select Integrations
- Once the page loads, click the Add Integration button to open the Add Integration Modal
- Complete the fields as follow:
- Target URL: Copy the Target link URL from the Microsoft LMG Gateway
- Login URL: Copy the Open ID connection URL from the Microsoft LMG Gateway
- Keyset URL: This is not required by Teams, but is a mandatory field so enter https://example.com
- Redirect URL: copy the Redirect URL from the Microsoft LMG Gateway - Click the Next button
-
Complete the fields as follows:
- For Name enter the description you would like this integration to have within Aula. For example, 'Teams Meetings'.
- For Icon enter the URL of a suitable icon for the integration, such as the one shown here.
- The Enable deep linking toggle can be disabled
- The Can retrieve participants of the space toggle can be enabled - Click the Add button
-
Aula will provide you with the following information needed to complete the registration in the Microsoft LMS Gateway:
- Issuer
- Client Id
- Deployment Id
Step 3:
-
Return to the Microsoft LMS Gateway and complete the fields as follows:
- Keyset URL: https://apiv2.{your-institution}.aula.education/lti/1p3/keys
- Client Id: Copy the Client Id provided by the Aula Admin Dashboard and paste it here
- Issuer Id URL: Copy the Issuer provided by the Aula Admin Dashboard and paste it here
- Platform authentication URL: https://apiv2.{your-institution}.aula.education/lti/1p3/auth
- Access token URL: https://apiv2.{your-institution}.aula.education/lti/1p3/token
- Deployment Id: Copy the Deployment Id provided by the Aula Admin Dashboard and paste it here - Review and save your changes. The integration should now be complete.
If you need to view any of the registration details generated by Aula in the future, you can return to the Integrations area of the Admin Dashboard and open the editor modal for the relevant integration.
Note
The Client Id and Deployment Id are unique for each integration, so if you delete the integration in Aula for any reason, you will need to update or replace the registration in the Microsoft LMS Gateway
Usage
Once the integration has been configured, educators should be able to access it:
- Head to the Editor in Aula (in the Community Feed or Materials)
- Click on the + icon
- In the menu, head to Integrations and click on the one you would like to add
- A block will appear reflecting the name and icon set in the integration configuration
- Once a block has been created, clicking on it will launch Teams in a separate tab
Teams Classes
Although Microsoft Teams Classes does provide LTI support, they currently only support a specific set of LTI platforms which does not include Aula at this time. We will continue to monitor this situation, and if Microsoft allows open LTI support in the future, we will update this documentation.
